Munshiganj, Jan 03 (V7N) — Four people lost their lives, and several others were injured in two separate road accidents on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway caused by dense fog and reckless driving.

The first accident occurred on Thursday night in the Nimtala area of Sirajdikhan upazila. A Mawa-bound covered van stopped due to poor visibility when it was struck from behind by a speeding minibus of Abdullah Paribahan. Bus helper Jiban Sheikh and passenger Md. Raihan died on the spot, and at least 10 others sustained injuries.

Hansara Highway Police Station OC Abdul Quader Jilani confirmed the incident, stating, "We have seized the covered van and the bus involved in the Nimtala accident, but the bus driver fled. Dense fog and speeding were the primary causes. Legal action is being taken."

In the second accident, which took place early Friday morning around 4:45 am in the Hansara area of Srinagar upazila, a Dhaka-bound bus of Purbasha Paribahan hit another vehicle from behind. The bus driver’s assistant and supervisor were critically injured and succumbed to their injuries on the way to the hospital. Their identities remain unknown.

These incidents follow another tragic accident last Friday, where six people were killed when a bus ran over a private car and a motorcycle near the Dhaleshwari toll plaza on the same expressway.

Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and reduce speed, especially during adverse weather conditions, to prevent further tragedies.
