Rajbari, Jan 12 (V7N) — A tragic head-on collision between two buses in Kalukhali, Rajbari, late Saturday night claimed the life of a driver and left at least 15 others injured.

The accident occurred around 11:30 pm on the Rajbari-Kushtia regional highway in the Gariana area of Kalukhali upazila. The deceased, Bachchu Sheikh (48), was the driver of a Golden Line Paribahan bus and a resident of Faridpur district.

The injured include Sumi Akhtar (40), Harun Or Rashid (50), Jannatul (38), Shamim Reza (39), Abdullah (7), Hafizul (60), Kamal (35), Ruman (25), Harun (30), and Niamat (55). The identities of several others remain unknown.

According to Md. Harun Or Rashid, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pangsha Highway Police Station, the collision involved a Golden Line Paribahan bus travelling from Barisal to Rangpur and a Hanif Paribahan bus heading from Kushtia to Dhaka. The impact caused severe damage to the front sections of both buses, trapping the drivers and injuring passengers.

Local residents and emergency responders rushed to the scene, rescuing the injured and transporting them to Kalukhali Upazila Health Complex. They were later referred to Rajbari Sadar Hospital for further treatment. Fire service personnel extricated the trapped drivers from the wreckage. Tragically, Bachchu Sheikh was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Authorities are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the collision. The tragic accident underscores the ongoing challenges of road safety in the region.
