A blaze engulfed an under-construction cold storage facility belonging to S Alam Group in Baklia, Chittagong city, Bangladesh, sending plumes of smoke billowing into the sky. The fire, which broke out on Friday morning around 10:30 am local time, sparked concerns about the safety of the surrounding area and the extent of damage caused by the inferno.

According to sources from the fire service, the fire originated in the fruit, vegetable, fish, and meat freezer section of the facility, known as Taja Multipurpose Cold Storage Limited, which was still under construction at the time of the incident. The flames quickly spread throughout the structure, posing a significant challenge to firefighting efforts.

Johnny Mondal, a firefighter from the Agrabad fire station, reported that seven units from Agrabad and Chandanpura fire services rushed to the scene to contain the blaze. Despite their swift response, the cause of the fire remains unknown, prompting authorities to launch an investigation to determine the root cause of the incident.

Thankfully, no casualties have been reported thus far, offering a glimmer of relief amid the chaos and destruction wrought by the fire.
