The official stated that a 50-year-old farmer was killed on Thursday night in the Sherpur district's Nalitabari upazila by a herd of wild elephants.

It was determined that the dead was Omar Ali Mistri, son of Tamij Uddin of the upazila's neighbouring Batkuchi hamlet.

Rafiqul Islam, the Madhutila Range officer of the Forest Department, stated on Friday that the farmer was murdered on the spot when he was attacked by wild elephants that were coming from a neighbouring jungle as he was watching over the Boro paddy at night.
After the elephants departed the area, the body was found by locals, he said.

After learning of the incident, local public and forest authorities hurried to the scene.

Locals in the Sherpur upazilas of Nalitabari and Jhenaigati claim that wild elephants often attack them, especially at night when they are defending their croplands.
