Mongla, June 27 (V7N)- A fisherman has gone missing after a fishing boat capsized in Mongla. The police, river police, and fire service divers are conducting a search operation to locate the missing fisherman, Mahidul Islam, son of Rashid Sheikh of Ulubunia village in Sonailtala Union.

Abu Taher Hawladar, the Upazila Chairman, reported that Mahidul Islam (24) and Tarikul Islam, residents of Ulubunia village in Ward 7 of Sonailtala Union, were catching shrimp fry (golda chingri pona) in the Joykha area of the Mongla-Ghasiakhali International Waterway. At around 4:30 am on Thursday, the fishing boat's rope got entangled with the propeller of an Omera LPG-carrying vessel, causing the boat to capsize.

At the time of the incident, Tarikul managed to swim to safety, but Mahidul went missing. Upon receiving the news, Upazila Chairman Abu Taher Hawladar rushed to the scene. He alerted the police, river police, and fire service, who arrived at the site at around 10:30 am and started a rescue operation. Although the capsized boat was recovered, Mahidul remains missing. The river police and fire service divers are continuing their search efforts.

Mongla Police Station Officer-in-Charge KM Azizul Islam said, "We have heard that a fishing boat capsized after being struck by an Omera LPG vessel between 4:00 and 4:30 am, resulting in one fisherman missing. The search operation is ongoing." He further mentioned that necessary legal action would be taken against the Omera LPG vessel if a formal complaint is filed and an investigation warrants it.
