Durgapur, July 6 (V7N)- On Saturday (July 6), the body of Madrasa student Rekha Akhtar (17) who drowned in the Someshwari River in Durgapur has been recovered. She was found at 10 am near Kalomakanda in Shyampur Upazila.
 
Earlier, on Thursday afternoon (July 4), another Madrasa student drowned at the ferry ghat of Keranikhola-Khalishapara in Chandigarh Union of Durgapur. Rekha, a student of Keranikhola-Mahila Madrasa in Birishiri Union of Upazila, drowned during a boat trip with 20-25 passengers.
 
According to Durgapur Fire Service, on Thursday at 2 pm, a dinghy boat with the Madrasa student and other passengers was traveling from Keranikhola Ferry Ghat to Khalishapara Ghat. Shortly after leaving Keranikhola Ghat, the boat sank.
 
At that time, the students and passengers on the boat managed to swim ashore with the help of locals. However, Madrasa student Rekha Akhtar remained missing. Since then, local residents, police, and divers have been actively involved in rescue operations.
 
Today, after 44 hours, a rescue team from the Fire Service conducted an operation and recovered Rekha's body from the Someshwari River near Kalomakanda in Shyampur Upazila.
