Pabna, Nov 05 (V7N) — In an effort to boost rice production and equip farmers with enhanced agricultural techniques, free improved rice seeds were distributed to farmers in Pabna. A special training program on seed marketing and rice production was also conducted to support sustainable farming practices in the region.
The distribution and training event took place at the Pabna Sadar Upazila Agriculture Office auditorium at 11 AM. Dr. Md. Jamal Uddin, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, Khamarbari, Pabna, inaugurated the event as the chief guest.
Harvest Plus Bangladesh’s Country Coordinator Wahidul Amin and Divisional Coordinator Zakiul Hasan shared detailed information about the seeds provided under the Scaling Biofortified Crop Project, a program by IFPRI Harvest Plus. They highlighted how the biofortified seeds can improve crop resilience and nutritional value, which is crucial for food security in the area.
The event was attended by key agricultural officials, including Pabna Sadar Upazila Agricultural Extension Officer Shailen Kumar Pal, District Training Officer Saiful Islam, Additional Deputy Director (Grains) Md. Rokonuzzaman, Sadar Upazila Agriculture Officer Kuntala Ghosh, and Assistant Information Officer Khaledin Anam. Saleh Md. Shihab Uddin, Harvest Plus Program Project Coordinator, was also present.
More than fifty marginal farmers from different unions in Pabna participated, gaining knowledge about improved agricultural practices and marketing strategies for the seeds. The initiative aims to enhance productivity, ultimately contributing to food security and agricultural sustainability in the region.
