The cultivation of colored cauliflower, especially yellow and purple varieties, is attracting farmers in Naogaon for its easy growth and high profit. Jalal Hossain, a farmer from Kasba village, has set an example by successfully cultivating 1,000 saplings on his land, after receiving training from an NGO named “Moushumi”. He invested Tk 8,000 and expects to earn Tk 45,000 from his harvest. He has also received a positive response from buyers and other farmers, who are keen to learn from him.

Colored cauliflower has more nutritional value and demand than white one, according to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials. They also said that organic fertilizers and pheromone traps are used instead of chemical fertilizers and pesticides for their cultivation, which is beneficial for the environment and health. Colored cauliflower can be harvested within 70 to 80 days of planting and each weighs about two kilograms.

Local people have shown interest in colored cauliflower, as they visit Jalal’s farm to see and buy the vegetables. The success of Jalal has also created optimism for the expansion of cultivation in the region, as colored cauliflower has been displayed at various exhibitions. District officials and agricultural experts have expressed their hope for increased cultivation, as they highlighted the health benefits and higher selling price of colored cauliflower compared to white ones.

The cultivation of colored cauliflower is expected to inspire other farmers in the district to adopt this profitable venture, which can also contribute to the food security and nutrition of the country.
