Rajshahi, Feb 16 (V7N) – Farmers in Tanor Municipality, Rajshahi are facing extreme uncertainty as allegations have emerged against BMDA (Barind Multipurpose Development Authority) for forcibly encroaching on a deep tube well in the Taland Uparpara field.
The legal operator, Momtazul Islam, has lodged a written complaint with the Assistant Engineer of BMDA Tanor Zone, accusing Ayesh Uddin of illegally occupying the deep tube well located on plot number 171 of Taland Mouza. Around 150 bighas of farmland depend on this tube well for irrigation, and farmers fear a major disruption in water supply due to the ongoing conflict.
Despite BMDA officially appointing Momtazul Islam as the operator after a verification and oral test, Ayesh Uddin allegedly seized control and began illegally collecting irrigation fees from farmers. The situation has escalated, with farmers warning that violent clashes could break out unless authorities intervene.
When contacted, Ayesh Uddin claimed that the tube well should be operated under the village mosque and accused BMDA officials of irregularities in the appointment process. Meanwhile, BMDA Tanor Zone Assistant Engineer Jaminur Rahman stated that a detailed investigation will be conducted before any action is taken.
