Jhalkathi, July 11 (V7N) – In a shocking incident in the Amua Bazaar area near Kachhalia in Jhalkathi district, a pond was poisoned, resulting in the death of fish worth approximately Tk 10 lakh. The affected pond belongs to local businessman and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader Mohammad Mamun Poddar. Authorities believe the poisoning occurred at some point during the night.
According to local sources, Mamun Poddar has been farming both indigenous and foreign species of fish in the pond for a long time. On Saturday morning, the water in the pond turned an abnormal color and began to emit a foul odor. Upon hearing reports from locals, Mamun rushed to the site, where he discovered that nearly all of the fish had died and were floating on the water’s surface.
Expressing his frustration, Mamun Poddar said, “This is not just an economic loss; it is a waste of several years of hard work. Those responsible for this act have dealt a severe blow to the livelihood of a fish farmer.”
