Dhaka, Oct 05 (V7N): The new Chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Rezaul Karim Mallick, announced significant reforms, declaring an end to the notorious "Aynaghar" detention center and controversial practices at the DB office.

During a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre on Minto Road, the DB chief emphasized his mission to restore the public’s trust in the DB. He pledged that the office would be transformed into a place where justice prevails for everyone, regardless of their status. "Accused individuals will be treated fairly, and there will be no torture of those arrested. We aim for only criminals to fear the DB, not the general public."

Mallick also highlighted the end of "Bhaater Hotel," a practice initiated by his predecessor Harun-or-Rashid, which involved hosting meals with detainees and arrestees. He assured that such gatherings, including celebrity visits, would no longer be tolerated.

"The DB office will become a place of trust and confidence for victims. No form of injustice or unprofessional behavior will be allowed," he stated. Mallick further added that strict action would be taken against any unethical conduct by DB officers.

Appointed on September 1, Rezaul Karim Mallick is committed to improving the DB’s image, appointing skilled officers, and ensuring that the DB operates in a fair, transparent manner.
