Major reshuffle in Army top brass

Dhaka, Oct 14 (V7N): The top leadership of the Bangladesh Army underwent a significant reshuffle on Monday.


Two major generals have been promoted to lieutenant generals including director general of Defense Intelligence (DGFI) Faizur Rahman.

Faizur Rahman has been given the charge of Quarter Master General (QMG) of Army Headquarters.

On the other hand, 24 Infantry Division (Chittagong Cantonment) GOC Major General Mainur Rahman has been promoted as lieutenant general and appointed as the GOC of the Army Training and Doctrine Command (ARTDOC).

Meanwhile, Major General Mohammad Jahangir Alam has become the new Director General of DGFI from the GOC and area commander of 33 Infantry Division of Comilla Cantonment.

Recently, Bangladesh Army has rescued about 9,500 flood-affected people from Feni, Noakhali and Comilla districts and Major General Jahangir led the rescue operations in flood-affected areas.

However, after the fall of the Awami League government, Faizur Rahman was made the DGFI chief, replacing Major General Hamidul Haque.

Lt Gen Mojibur Rahman, who was in charge of the quartermaster general during the Awami League government, was sent to ARTDOC and Lieutenant Generals Ahmed Tabrez Shams Chowdhury, GOC of Artdoc, was made QMG on August 6.

Within a month, Tabrez was sent on compulsory retirement on September 12 and Mujibur was dismissed from the Army, after that both the posts were vacant.

The new QMG Faizur Rahman took charge of DGFI on August 12, before he was the commandant of Defense Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) at Mirpur.

Another infantry directorate officer got promotion as major general and made Military Secretary of the Army headquarter.

According to sources, changes have been made in several top levels of the Army, including 7 Division, 17 Division, 10 Division and NTMC, DSCSC, BOF, NDC and Tea Board.

Major General Abdul Quayyum Mollah, GOC of 7th infantry Division and Area Commander of Barisal, has been made director general of National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC).

Outgoing Director General of National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) Maj Gen ASM Ridwanur Rahman has been made GOC of 17th infantry division, commander of Sylhet area.

Major General Mohammad Asadullah Minhazul Alam, Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) has been made GOC of the 10th Infantry Division and Area Commander of Coxs Bazar.

Major General Chowdhury Mohammad Azizul Haque Hazary GOC of 17th Infantry Division and Commander of Sylhet area has been made Commandant of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC).
