Dhaka, Oct 16 (V7N) — Shudhanshu Shekhar Bhadra, the former Director General of the Postal Department, was arrested on Tuesday night in connection with a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

ACC Deputy Director and Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam confirmed the arrest on Wednesday morning, adding that the process of presenting Bhadra before the court is currently underway.

The ACC lodged the case against Bhadra on August 20, 2024, alleging irregularities in the procurement of servers and UPS units worth BDT 15 crore under a departmental project.

Bhadra had previously been placed on compulsory leave in 2020 over accusations of corruption and misconduct. Following the allegations, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Posts and Telecommunications had recommended his dismissal from the post.

His arrest marks a significant step in the ACC’s efforts to address corruption within public institutions. Further legal proceedings are expected to unfold as the investigation progresses.
