New Delhi, Oct 17 (V7N) – Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is currently in India and will remain there, according to Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. He made the statement on Thursday, addressing ongoing speculation about her location.

Reports from Bangladeshi media had suggested that Sheikh Hasina might have traveled to the United Arab Emirates, while other sources claimed she was issued a travel document by the Indian government. Journalists sought clarification during a media briefing.

Jaiswal responded by stating, "It was previously communicated that the former prime minister came to India on short notice due to security concerns, and she continues to remain here."

On the same day, several questions were raised regarding recent developments in Bangladesh, including the issuance of arrest warrants by the International Crimes Tribunal of Bangladesh against Sheikh Hasina, Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, and 45 others. The warrants demand their appearance before the tribunal by November 18.

When asked about India’s stance on these developments, Jaiswal acknowledged that they had seen the reports but chose not to provide additional comments.

Questions were also asked about the interim government's decision to cancel eight national holidays, including the March 7 and March 17 celebrations. The spokesperson declined to comment on this matter as well.

Additionally, India’s visa process for Bangladeshis has yet to return to normal since Sheikh Hasina's departure. Jaiswal stated that limited visas are currently being issued for urgent needs and medical purposes. He added that once the law and order situation improves, visa processing will also normalize.

Jaiswal further mentioned that India had earlier condemned the attacks on minorities, including Hindus, and the vandalism of Durga Puja pandals. Bangladesh's interim government had assured the protection of minorities, and Jaiswal urged them to uphold this commitment.
