Dhaka, Oct 19 (V7N) — Hundreds of outsourcing workers from various government offices, departments, and autonomous institutions gathered at Shahbagh this morning to demand age relaxation, regularisation, and permanent employment within their respective departments.

The protest began around 10 am on Saturday, leading to a complete halt in traffic in the area. Many commuters were forced to disembark from buses and walk to their destinations as the blockade caused severe congestion.

Eyewitnesses reported that the protestors occupied the Shahbagh intersection, leading to traffic disruption in the surrounding areas.

Speaking to the media, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbagh Police Station, Mohammad Khalid Mansoor, confirmed the demonstration. "The workers are demanding the nationalisation of their jobs. Their roadblock has caused a major traffic jam in Shahbagh and nearby areas. We are on-site, trying to manage the situation," he said.

The protesting workers are demanding job security, including permanent employment, for those working under outsourcing, daily contracts, master rolls, and various government projects.

Commuters have expressed frustration over the situation, with many hoping for a quick resolution. Authorities are monitoring the demonstration to prevent further disruptions.
