Dhaka, Oct 20 (V7N) – President Mohammed Shahabuddin has called on the public to refrain from further fueling controversy regarding the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, following confusion arising from a media campaign. The appeal was issued by the President's Press Wing on Monday.

The President clarified that all queries related to Sheikh Hasina’s resignation, which resulted from a student-led revolution, were addressed in Special Reference No. 01/2024 by the Honourable Supreme Court's Appellate Division. This ruling, delivered on August 8, 2024, also examined the dissolution of Parliament and affirmed the constitutional legitimacy of the current interim government.

In accordance with Article 106 of the Constitution, President Shahabuddin sought the Supreme Court's opinion, which the Appellate Division duly provided. He has urged all parties to respect this resolution and avoid actions that could destabilize the interim government.

The issue resurfaced following an interview published in Jonotar Chokh with President Shahabuddin, where he recounted the chaotic events following Sheikh Hasina’s resignation. The President described efforts to gather information on Hasina’s resignation, highlighting the confusion that ensued. He revealed that he was informed of Hasina's departure only after she had left the country.

In his remarks, President Shahabuddin recalled that on August 5, amid a student-led uprising, Sheikh Hasina’s government fell, and she fled to India. Later that day, Army Chief General Waker confirmed her resignation, which the President subsequently accepted.
