Dhaka, Oct 22 (V7N) – Security around Bangabhaban has been heightened by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) as protesters gathered near the presidential residence, calling for the resignation of President Mohammad Shahabuddin.
At noon, demonstrators, under the banners of 'Committee for the Protection of Independence and Sovereignty' and "Raktim July 2024," began their march from Dhaka University and congregated in front of Bangabhaban.
"We are taking precautions as protests continue in the area. The protesters have not been stopped, but we are being vigilant to ensure no incidents occur," said Md Shahriar Ali, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Motijheel Division.
DMP Joint Commissioner Farooq Hossain confirmed that security had been bolstered under direct orders. "A significant police presence has been deployed, including detectives in plain clothes. Army and RAB members are working with local police stations to prevent any disruptions," he added.
Armoured personnel carriers (APCs) and water cannons have also been stationed in the area to manage the situation.
