Dhaka, Oct 23 (V7N) – Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam stated that the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin will be a political decision, determined in due course, based on public sentiment.

During a press briefing at the Ministry of Information on Wednesday, Nahid Islam remarked, "The government was formed on August 8 to ensure national stability and security. However, if the public feels a need for change, the government will take that into account. The president's resignation is not a legal issue but a political one."

He emphasized that a decision would be reached soon, reflecting political consensus and national unity.

"The country's stability is of paramount importance, and the government remains dedicated to preventing any disorder," he added, while urging citizens not to provoke unrest or gather at Bangabhaban.

Nahid Islam acknowledged public discontent with the current leadership, stating, "The message from the people is clear: they no longer want this president. The government is fully aware, and a decision will be made at the right time."

He also referenced the political shift of August 5, when the Awami League government fell after a mass coup led by students, forcing Sheikh Hasina to leave the country. President Shahabuddin had announced accepting Hasina's resignation, although later, in an interview with Manab Zamin Editor Matiur Rahman, he revealed that while he had heard of the resignation, he lacked any documentary proof to verify it.

"I have tried many times to obtain the resignation letter but have not succeeded," the president reportedly mentioned.

These remarks have spurred calls for his resignation, with groups like the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement joining the demand for his departure.
