Bangladesh's prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, praised on Friday's initiative to publish a souvenir commemorating the 82nd birthday of internationally renowned nuclear scientist and the premier's late husband, Dr. M A Wazed Miah. The celebration will take place on Saturday in a manner for the nation.
"I welcome the initiative of Scientist M A Wazed Miah Memorial Library (Biggyani MA Wazed Miah Smrity Pathagar) to publish the souvenir 'Batighar' on his birth anniversary," she said in an email.
Wazed Miah, also known as "Sudha Miah," was born on February 16, 1942, into a devout Muslim family in Laldighi Fatehpur hamlet, which is part of Pirganj upazila in the Rangpur district. The prime minister claimed that he devoted every second of his professional life to advancing the interests of the nation when he announced on the eve of Dr. M A Wazed Miah's birth anniversary.
She stated that he was always outspoken in his opposition to the tyranny of Pakistanis and that his central focus was to secure the general welfare of Bangladesh till the very time of his death.
She said that M. A. Wazed Miah made a unique contribution to the Great War of Liberation and that everyone will always admire this modest, selfless individual who was not interested in gaining power. She went on, "Some of M A Wazed Miah's cherished book lovers founded the Dr. M A Wazed Miah Memorial Library in 2014 to honor his memory."
Sheikh Hasina expressed her hope that the Scientist Dr. M A Wazed Miah Memorial Library will reach more people nationwide and provide literature at their doorsteps.
Additionally, it will be particularly important in constructing the Sonar Bangladesh and Smart Bangladesh, which is the vision of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the father of the nation.
The premier went on, "I hope M. A. Wazed Miah Memorial Library has every success."
