Dhaka, Oct 31 (V7N)- Adviser for Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Nahid Islam announced that elections for student parliaments will take place before any other elections in the country. Speaking at an event on Wednesday, he emphasized that the interim government has only been in charge for three months and clarified that while the government has not ruled out holding elections, necessary reforms for a conducive electoral environment have yet to be implemented.

Nahid stated, "Election is just one aspect of the reform process; without fundamental changes, elections will serve no purpose. Hundreds of lives were sacrificed not just for a transition of power." He underscored the importance of initiating reforms before considering elections.

He outlined the government's priorities, starting with supporting families of those who were martyred or injured during the mass uprising. His second focus is on bringing justice to those responsible for mass killings and fascism in the country, advocating for a reconciliation project to unite the nation through justice.

The adviser highlighted the urgent need for state institutional reforms, noting that public trust in government entities has eroded and must be rebuilt. He remarked that students played a significant role in the revolution, and discussions about their future must include creating harmony between students and political parties.

Nahid criticized political parties for sidelining students in their national election discussions, asserting, "We must ensure student parliament elections before any other elections." He also commented on the media's role, pointing out that while media typically acts as a government critic globally, the situation in Bangladesh has been quite the opposite.
