Tangail, Nov 17 (V7N)- Today marks the 48th death anniversary of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, the revered leader of the oppressed and founding president of the Awami Muslim League. Maulana Bhashani passed away on this day in 1976 while undergoing treatment at PG Hospital in Dhaka. He was laid to rest in Santosh, Tangail, where his shrine continues to attract devotees and admirers from across the nation.
Various programs are being held to commemorate his life and legacy. His family, Maulana Bhashani Science and Technology University, political leaders, socio-cultural organizations, and followers have organized events, including wreath-laying ceremonies, discussions, and the ongoing seven-day 'Bhashani Mela' organized by the Maulana Bhashani Foundation.
Maulana Bhashani, a lifelong champion for the rights of the underprivileged and neglected, devoted his life to the betterment of the nation. Known for his unwavering commitment to the common people, he stood by the masses during crises and galvanized them to build strong movements against exploitation and oppression. His personal life, marked by simplicity and humility, symbolized his deep connection to the people and his nation.
Bhashani’s enduring contributions include his efforts to shape a progressive, democratic, and non-communal Bangladesh free from exploitation. He played a key role in defining Bengali national identity and shaping the socio-political landscape of the region.
Born on December 12, 1880, in Dhangara, Sirajganj, Maulana Bhashani spent much of his life in Tangail, where he led significant political movements. His political journey included leading the Bengal-Assam Province Muslim League and being a pivotal figure in forming the United Front during the 1954 elections. During the Liberation War, he served as president of the Advisory Council of the Government in Exile.
Political leaders and organizations, including the BNP, gathered at his shrine this morning to pay their respects. The day stands as a solemn reminder of Bhashani’s lifelong dedication to building a Bangladesh rooted in equality, justice, and national unity.
