Dhaka, Nov 28 (V7N) – Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed has voiced serious concern over recent disturbances in courts nationwide, urging vigilance to ensure uninterrupted judicial services.

In a press release issued today by Supreme Court Public Relations Officer Md. Shafiqul Islam, the chief justice stated, “Several challenges have emerged in the country’s courts recently. The Supreme Court remains committed to ensuring that judicial services continue smoothly despite these obstacles.”

Dr. Ahmed referred to the incident on November 27, when lawyers allegedly threw eggs at Justice Ashraful Kamal during court proceedings, accusing him of making derogatory remarks about former President Ziaur Rahman in his 2016 observations related to the 16th Amendment case verdict.

To prevent such incidents in the future, the chief justice has directed all courts and tribunals to maintain regular operations and uphold citizens' right to access justice.

On November 27, a group of lawyers confronted Justice Kamal during a session, challenging his impartiality based on his earlier remarks. During the confrontation, an egg was thrown but landed on the desk in front of the judge’s seat. Following the incident, Justice Kamal and Justice Kazi Waliul Islam left the courtroom for their chambers.

This episode is part of a series of incidents involving courts across the country. On November 26, a lawyer was killed during clashes that erupted after supporters of Iskcon Bangladesh leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari blocked a prison van transporting him to jail following a rejected bail plea.

Earlier, on August 14, civilians and some lawyers threw eggs at former law minister Anisul Huq and Salman F Rahman, an ex-adviser to the ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, outside the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.

The chief justice reiterated the Supreme Court’s commitment to addressing these challenges and ensuring an impartial judicial process for all.
