Dhaka, Dec 06 (V7N) — India’s Foreign Secretary is set to visit Bangladesh on December 9, aiming to create a positive atmosphere and restore balance in bilateral relations. The announcement was made by Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a press conference in Delhi earlier today.

Addressing recent challenges, Jaiswal acknowledged that diplomatic relations between the two neighbouring countries have hit a low point. "It is clear to the world that our bilateral relations have reached rock bottom," he stated.

Jaiswal emphasised India’s commitment to fostering strong ties with its neighbours, including Bangladesh. "India is determined to build good relations with all neighbouring countries. Therefore, the Indian government seeks to engage with the interim government of Bangladesh to coordinate efforts for mutual understanding and collaboration."

The visit comes at a critical time, with tensions brewing over various issues, including the portrayal of communal harmony and internal matters in Bangladesh by Indian media and political leaders. Observers note that these controversies have contributed to the deterioration of ties, which some describe as being at their lowest since Bangladesh’s independence in 1971.

The upcoming visit is seen as a significant diplomatic effort to mend relations and address pressing concerns between the two nations. All eyes will be on the discussions held during the Foreign Secretary’s trip and the outcomes that follow.
