Dhaka, Dec 12 (V7N)- Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali addressed a program at the CRAB auditorium on Thursday, where he reflected on recent developments in the country. He declared that the era of "helmeted forces" in Bangladesh had come to an end with the mass uprising on August 5. This was in reference to previous tactics used by security forces, which have been increasingly criticized by the public.
The DMP Commissioner emphasized that the police are a service-providing institution, with a duty to protect and serve the people. He stressed that it was not the role of the police to engage in unjustified attacks or file baseless cases, and promised that those responsible for such actions would be brought to justice. Ali reiterated his apology for the police's actions during the student and public movement, acknowledging the grievances that arose during those times.
Regarding the upcoming New Year celebrations, he assured the public that there would be no security shortfall in Dhaka. He also urged the police to ensure that no compromises were made in providing services to the people of the capital, especially during a period of high public activity.
The program concluded with Commissioner Ali distributing scholarships to the children of CRAB (Community Radio and Broadcasting) members and awarding prizes to winners of the organization's annual sports competition.
