Dhaka, Dec 14 (V7N)- President Md. Shahabuddin paid homage to the martyred intellectuals on the occasion of Martyr Intellectuals Day at the Martyr Intellectuals Memorial in Mirpur on Saturday morning.

The President laid a wreath at the memorial at 7 am, honoring the intellectuals who were brutally killed just days before Bangladesh achieved its final victory in the Liberation War of 1971. He observed a moment of silence, standing solemnly to pay respect to these eminent individuals, regarded as the best sons of the nation.

A ceremonial state salute was performed by a smart contingent of the armed forces, accompanied by the mournful strains of a bugle tune, underscoring the somberness of the occasion.

The tragic loss of these intellectuals, systematically targeted by the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators at the end of the Liberation War, was intended to cripple the intellectual and cultural foundation of a newly independent Bangladesh.

After the ceremony, President Shahabuddin exchanged greetings with war-wounded freedom fighters and other invited guests who were present at the memorial. The tribute serves as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the intellectuals for the independence and prosperity of Bangladesh.
