Dhaka, Dec 15 (V7N)— East Timorese President Jose Ramos Horta, currently on an official visit to Bangladesh, met with Foreign Affairs Adviser M. Towhid Hossain at Hotel Sonargaon in Dhaka on Sunday morning. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for cooperation between the two nations.

President Horta, a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, arrived in Dhaka on Saturday night aboard a special Singapore Airlines flight. He was warmly received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Nobel laureate economist and Chief Advisor of the interim government, Dr. Muhammad Yunus. A red carpet reception was accorded to the East Timorese leader, highlighting the significance of his visit.

During their meeting, Adviser Towhid Hossain and President Horta discussed various areas of mutual interest, aiming to deepen diplomatic and economic ties. President Horta’s visit is expected to foster collaboration and enhance goodwill between Bangladesh and East Timor.

This marks a notable moment in diplomatic engagement, reflecting Bangladesh's growing focus on international partnerships and South-South cooperation.
