Dhaka, Dec 16 (V7N) –Interim Govt Adviser Mahfuz Alam has called upon the country’s people and political parties to ensure that the new opportunity to rebuild independent Bangladesh—earned through the blood of millions of martyrs and the sacrifices of countless mothers and sisters—is not neglected in any way.
He made this appeal on Monday while speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar.
"Victory Day greetings to all the people of the nation," said Mahfuz Alam. "Salute to the martyrs, the injured, and everyone who contributed to Bangladesh's liberation struggle in various ways, as well as those who played a role in the July uprising."
He further said: "After 1971, we went through a Mujibist system. The July uprising disrupted that arrangement—a system that had held Bangladesh back, depriving its people of freedom of speech and fundamental human rights. We hope that this change in governance will bring real freedom to the people of Bangladesh, and that they will safeguard this freedom."
The adviser emphasized, "We urge the people to act responsibly this time. The recent victory was achieved through the blood and sacrifices of over 2,000 martyrs and nearly 50,000 others. Similarly, in 1971, we gained the state of Bangladesh at the cost of 3 million martyrs and the honor of many mothers and sisters. Now, we have a chance to rebuild this state. Let us not neglect this opportunity in any way. Let every individual and political party act responsibly."
He added: "This year, we are celebrating Victory Day in an independent and free manner. We hope that the people of Bangladesh will preserve this freedom and remain united with us."
