Dhaka, Dec 29 (V7N) — Unpaid trainees who passed the first phase of the FCPS examination staged a protest at Shahbagh intersection on Sunday morning, demanding an increase in their monthly allowance. The demonstration disrupted traffic in the area, causing severe congestion on surrounding roads.
The protesters chanted slogans such as, "The prices of goods are on fire, how can 25 thousand be spent?", "I only want 50 thousand as an allowance," and "Where is the country's standard when doctors go out on the streets?"
This is not the first such protest. On December 22, private trainee doctors blocked the same intersection with similar demands. That protest ended with the government increasing their allowance from Tk 25,000 to Tk 30,000. However, the trainees are now pushing for a further raise to Tk 50,000, citing the rising cost of living.
The blockade at Shahbagh caused significant inconvenience to commuters, highlighting the ongoing tension between trainee doctors and the authorities over financial support.
