Dhaka, Feb 06 (V7N) – Monir Haider, a seasoned journalist and prominent media personality, has been appointed as the Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government with the rank of Senior Secretary. The appointment was officially announced in a notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Wednesday.
The notification, signed by Abul Hayat Md. Rafiq, Deputy Secretary of the Ministry, specifies that Haider will serve in this role for a six-month term starting from the date of his joining. His appointment is contingent upon renouncing any existing professional, business, or employment affiliations with government, semi-government, or private institutions.
Role and Responsibilities
Monir Haider has been assigned the portfolio of Consensus Building, where he will be tasked with maintaining liaison and fostering communication with various political parties and forces to build a national consensus on behalf of the Chief Advisor. This role is critical as the interim government seeks to navigate the country through a volatile political climate and ensure a smooth transition of power.
The notification also noted that the terms and conditions of Haider’s appointment will be determined by a contract.
Background and Career
Monir Haider brings a wealth of experience from his extensive career in journalism. He has contributed to renowned newspapers including Daily Purbokone, Bhorer Kagoj, Janakantha, Ittefaq, and Manabjamin. Currently, he serves as an advisor to the private TV channel Banglavision and is widely recognized as a civil rights activist and political commentator.
Joining from Abroad
Currently based in New York, Haider is expected to return to Bangladesh soon to formally assume his new role, according to government sources.
His appointment is seen as a strategic move by the interim government to leverage his media influence and political insight in fostering dialogue and achieving stability in the country's fragile political environment.
