Dhaka, Feb 18 (V7N) –The outgoing ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh, Rinchen Kuentsyl, on Tuesday emphasized the potential for Bangladesh-Bhutan joint venture investments in hydropower.

"We are keen for Bangladesh-Bhutan joint venture investment to explore hydropower potentials in Bhutan," Kuentsyl said during his farewell meeting with Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka.

He added that during his four-year-long stay in Dhaka, the relationship between the two countries deepened, with both nations exploring new avenues to boost ties.

The ambassador also noted that work on an exclusive special economic zone (SEZ) for Bhutanese investors in Kurigram is progressing rapidly and will generate thousands of jobs.

"We look forward to operationalising it very soon," he added, mentioning that Bhutanese investors will produce goods for both Bhutan and international markets.

Bhutan has also moved to sign an agreement with Bangladesh's submarine cable company to get an alternative internet connection from Dhaka.

During the meeting, they discussed issues of mutual interest, including growing education ties between the two South Asian nations.

Yunus thanked the ambassador for his efforts to bring the two countries closer and for being a "good friend" of Bangladesh.
