Cox's Bazar, Mar 14 (V7N) – Chief Advisor to the Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres have arrived in Cox’s Bazar as part of their visit to assess the situation of Rohingya refugees and ongoing development projects.

Their Bangladesh Biman Airlines flight landed at Cox’s Bazar Airport at 1 PM today (March 14), where they were received by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Salahuddin and Police Superintendent Mohammad Saifuddin. Farooq-e-Azam Bir Pratik, Advisor in Charge of the Ministry of Disaster Management, also extended an official welcome to the UN Secretary-General.

Following their arrival, Chief Advisor Yunus will visit:

  • The under-construction Cox's Bazar International Airport, and
  • The Khurushkul Climate Refugee Center.

Later, the delegation will travel to Ukhiya, where Guterres will visit:

  • The Rohingya Learning Center,
  • The Rohingya Cultural Center, and
  • The Jute Products Production Center.

In the evening, Dr. Yunus and Guterres will join an iftar with approximately 100,000 Rohingya refugees in Ukhiya, reaffirming the UN’s commitment to supporting displaced communities.

After completing their visit and attending the iftar, the Chief Advisor and the UN Secretary-General will return to Dhaka together in the evening.

This visit marks a significant moment in Bangladesh-UN relations, as Guterres' presence highlights the global attention on the Rohingya crisis and the ongoing efforts to address humanitarian and development challenges in the region.
