Dhaka, Mar 20 (V7N) – Australia will now process visas for Bangladeshi citizens directly from its High Commission in Dhaka instead of New Delhi, Australian Home Minister Tony Burke confirmed during a phone conversation with Bangladesh’s Home Affairs Adviser, Lt. Gen. (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.

The information was officially released in a statement by the press wing of the interim government on Thursday (March 20).

According to the statement, Australia’s decision follows a request made by Principal Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus during Australian Home Minister Tony Burke’s visit to Bangladesh in October last year. Previously, all visa applications from Bangladeshi citizens were processed through the Australian High Commission in New Delhi.

This move is expected to streamline visa processing, reduce delays, and improve services for Bangladeshi applicants. It also reflects the growing diplomatic and bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Australia.
