Dhaka, May 18 (V7N) – Popular actress Nusrat Faria was arrested on Sunday after being detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while preparing to fly to Thailand. Shahjalal Immigration Superintendent Akhter confirmed the arrest to Ekattor.
Nusrat Faria is facing charges in an attempted murder case filed by Bhatara Police Station related to the 2024 anti-discrimination student movement in Dhaka. The case alleges that Nusrat, along with 16 others including notable figures like Apu Biswas, Asna Habib Bhavna, and actor Zayed Khan, played a role in financing efforts to suppress the student protests.
According to sources, Enamul Haque filed the case at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court against former Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina, 283 affiliated individuals, and 300 to 400 unidentified persons. The complaint claims that the defendants, including Nusrat Faria, provided significant funds to quell the movement.
The case recounts a violent incident in which Enamul Haque was shot in the right leg during clashes and fell unconscious on the road. The legal proceedings accuse the defendants of orchestrating violence against the protesters.
Nusrat Faria’s arrest marks a significant development in this high-profile case tied to political unrest and raises questions about the involvement of celebrities in political conflicts.
