Irish Minister for Enterprise, Trade, and Employment, Simon Coveney, is set to arrive in Dhaka on Sunday as part of his official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties between Ireland and Bangladesh.

Scheduled to last seven days, Minister Coveney's visit to India and Bangladesh is part of Ireland's St Patrick's Day programme, signifying the importance of the relationship between the two countries.

During his time in Bangladesh, Minister Coveney, a former deputy prime minister of Ireland, will inaugurate Ireland's first Honorary Consulate in Dhaka and engage in a series of political, trade, and community meetings, as per the Irish government's agenda.

Kevin Kelly, Ambassador of Ireland to India, expressed his pleasure at Minister Coveney's visit, highlighting the significance of opening Ireland's first Honorary Consulate in Dhaka. This move underscores the commitment to strengthening ties between the two nations.

In line with this commitment, Cosmos Group Deputy Managing Director Masud Jamil Khan has been appointed as Ireland's Honourary Consul in Bangladesh, aiming to further expand bilateral cooperation and collaboration.

Masud emphasized the potential for cooperation between the rapidly growing Bangladesh and the well-developed and educated Ireland, expressing gratitude for Minister Simon's visit, which has long been awaited.

During his stay, Minister Coveney is expected to meet with Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, and State Minister for Commerce Ahasanul Islam Titu, among others. Additionally, he will attend a reception celebrating St Patrick's Day and the official opening of Ireland's Honorary Consulate in Bangladesh.

The visit is also anticipated to include a dialogue on Bangladesh-Ireland relations, reflecting the mutual interest in expanding economic cooperation. Over the past 27 years, Bangladesh's exports to Ireland have seen significant growth, highlighting the potential for further collaboration between the two nations.
