Dhaka, Sep 29 (V7N) – British High Commissioner to Dhaka Sarah Cook has reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to supporting free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections in Bangladesh next year.
She made the remarks after meeting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin at the Election Building in Agargaon on Monday.
Sarah Cook said the UK welcomed the announcement of the national elections by the Chief Advisor to Bangladesh and praised the discussions held with the CEC. She highlighted the UK’s ongoing support for the Election Commission, including initiatives such as the National Civic Education Programme and the training of polling staff, particularly for vulnerable groups.
“The UK supports free, fair, credible, and peaceful elections in Bangladesh next year,” she told reporters, appreciating the efforts of the Election Commission, the interim government, and international partners.
