Dhaka, Feb 09 (V7N) – Bangladesh has signed an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) with Japan, just five days ahead of the 13th National Parliament Election. The agreement was signed on February 6 and will soon be tabled in the Japanese parliament. It will come into effect after approval there, according to Trade Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin.

He made the announcement at a press conference at the Secretariat on Monday.

Under the agreement, Japan will receive duty-free access to 1,039 products from Bangladesh, while Bangladesh will get duty-free access to 7,379 Japanese products, the advisor said.

Sheikh Bashiruddin highlighted the economic potential of the agreement, stating that it is expected to increase Japanese investment in Bangladesh. He added that the deal would create new job opportunities for Bangladeshi professionals, including engineers, doctors, nurses, and caregivers, strengthening economic ties between the two countries.
