Obaidul Quader, Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister, stated today that the government is closely observing developments at Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (Buet) to prevent it from becoming a breeding ground for extremist ideologies and militant activities.

Addressing a gathering of party leaders from Chattogram division at the AL district office in Tejgaon, Quader emphasized the government's commitment to maintaining a zero-tolerance policy against irregularities, injustice, and corruption. He highlighted the swift actions taken in response to incidents such as the killing of Abrar and the recent verdict on the Biswajit murder case.

Quader also addressed concerns regarding the recent student protests at Buet, which erupted following alleged political activities by some Chhatra League members despite a ban on student politics. He questioned the restrictions on political activities on the campus and reaffirmed citizens' rights to engage in political discourse.

Regarding the upcoming upazila parishad elections, Quader reiterated the government's pledge to ensure free and fair polls, emphasizing the administration's non-interference and urging responsible conduct from all stakeholders. He expressed confidence in the Election Commission's ability to address any irregularities and announced the elections' phased implementation.

Critiquing BNP's recent activities, Quader likened their statements to those of Ayub Khan from the past Pakistani regime. He dismissed their efforts, stating that they are now focusing on anti-India rhetoric and spreading misinformation about the country's reserves.

Quader concluded by stating that the formation of the AL Chattogram city unit committee will take place after a conference.
