Dhaka, Mar 04 (V7N) — The ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran has triggered a global energy crisis, disrupting previously scheduled fuel imports to Bangladesh, Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku said on Wednesday (March 4).
The minister made the remarks after a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapoor at the Secretariat in the afternoon.
Iqbal Hassan Mahmud Tuku said Bangladesh has sought US cooperation to address the emerging crisis. According to him, the US side assured that the matter would be raised at the highest levels of their government.
Speaking about the country’s energy reserves, the minister said directives have been issued to ensure economical use of stored fuel and electricity. “Efforts are underway to source energy from multiple avenues,” he added, noting that current reserves are expected to last until March. However, he expressed concern that the crisis could continue through the Eid period.
Despite the challenges, the minister assured that there would not be an unbearable electricity crisis. He urged citizens to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary wastage of electricity to help manage the situation effectively.
Officials are closely monitoring global developments as the government works to maintain stable power supply amid mounting international uncertainty.
