Dhaka, Mar 04 (V7N) — Bangladesh has called on the United States to take initiatives for normalizing the situation in the Middle East, including in Iran, through diplomatic talks as soon as possible, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman said on Wednesday (March 4).
The statement was made at a press conference following a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Paul Kapoor at the Foreign Ministry.
Dr. Khalilur Rahman emphasized that Bangladesh will continue to strengthen its relationship with the United States while ensuring the country’s national interests remain a priority. He also stated that Dhaka will work to repatriate Bangladeshi citizens who are residing illegally in the United States in an organized and safe manner.
During the meeting, Paul Kapoor acknowledged that the peaceful national elections held in Bangladesh exceeded US expectations. However, the Foreign Minister clarified that military cooperation was not discussed during the talks.
Officials said the discussions focused primarily on diplomatic engagement, regional stability, and bilateral relations, reflecting Bangladesh’s efforts to contribute to peace in a turbulent Middle East while safeguarding its own national interests.
