Dhaka, Mar 05 (V7N) – Road Transport and Bridges Minister Sheikh Rabiul Alam has warned that strict action will be taken against anyone collecting illegal fees from passengers, while assuring citizens that preparations are underway for a smooth Eid-ul-Fitr journey.

Speaking at a briefing at the Secretariat on Thursday afternoon, the minister clarified that if an owner-worker association collects a fee for their welfare, it cannot be considered extortion. However, any illegal collection of money will face strict legal action.

Sheikh Rabiul Alam also stated that route permits will be canceled for transport operators who charge extra fares during the upcoming Eid holidays.

He added that trucks, covered vans, and lorries will be banned from highways for four days surrounding Eid, except for vehicles carrying essential goods and perishable items.

The minister emphasized that 28 measures have been implemented to ensure a comfortable and safe travel experience for passengers during Eid. Authorities have been directed to take necessary steps to make the journey smooth and hassle-free.
