Dhaka, Mar 12 (V7N) – Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed described the opening of the first session of the 13th National Parliament as a historic moment, saying the nation has waited 17 years for this day. He spoke just before joining the session on Thursday (March 12).

"The entire nation has fought, moved, and shed blood for this moment," the Home Minister said. "Our children have given their lives for this parliament. Today is historic. This parliament will work to fulfill the will of the people—this is our commitment," he added.

The first session of the 13th National Parliament began at 11 am today with the post of President currently vacant. The name of the President will be proposed by Parliament Leader and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and finalized during the session.

Following this, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be determined under the chairmanship of the Parliament President. As per parliamentary rules, President Md. Shahabuddin will administer the oath to the Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

The session marks the formal start of parliamentary activities after the BNP’s landslide victory in the 13th national election, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman leading the government.
