Bangladesh Railway is gearing up to enhance its services by importing 800 carriages and locomotives within the next year, aimed at bolstering the capacity of both passenger and freight trains, according to Railways Minister Md Zillul Hakim.

During a visit to Kamalapur Railway Station, Minister Hakim announced plans for the procurement of these essential railway assets, stating that approval has already been secured for the import of 200 carriages.

In response to concerns about potential corruption in the sector, Minister Hakim emphasized a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption within the railway system, asserting that stringent measures would be implemented to prevent any malpractice during the procurement process.

Minister Hakim reassured the public of the government's commitment to ensuring a safe and efficient Eid-ul-Fitr travel experience for homebound passengers. Additional trains are scheduled to operate during the Eid period, with special arrangements made for passengers without confirmed seats, allowing them to travel as standees if necessary.

Moreover, measures have been put in place to curb ticket scalping and ensure passenger safety throughout the Eid travel period, Minister Hakim affirmed.
