Five security personnel, including two Ansar members, were injured in an attack at the Rampal thermal power plant on Wednesday night. The assault took place at yard No 5 near tower No 3 within the plant's premises.
Deputy General Manager Anwarul Azim stated that around 50-60 armed individuals attempted to infiltrate residential areas of the power plant at approximately 11:30 pm. The guards confronted the attackers, resulting in injuries as they tried to prevent their entry.
Two of the injured were rushed to Khulna Medical College Hospital for urgent medical attention, while the remaining three received treatment at Rampal Upazila Health Complex.
This incident follows a series of bank robberies in Ruma and Thanchi upazilas of Bandarban, heightening concerns about organized criminal activities.
Somen Das, the officer-in-charge of Rampal police station, mentioned that law enforcement is actively investigating leads to identify and apprehend the culprits. As a precautionary measure, additional police forces have been deployed to secure the power plant and its surrounding areas to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of personnel and infrastructure.
