In a significant ceremony held at the Shapla Hall of the Prime Minister's office, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina administered the oath to the newly elected mayors of Cumilla and Mymensingh city corporations, along with the chairmen of five Zila Parishads.
The newly sworn-in mayors include Tahsin Bahar Suchona for Cumilla and Ekramul Haque Titu for Mymensingh. Additionally, the chairmen of the five Zila Parishads sworn in are ANM Obaidur Rahman (Kurigram), Abdul Majid (Thakurgaon), Shamim Talukder (Sirajganj), Billal Miah (Brahmanbaria), and Aleya Akhter (Habiganj).
Furthermore, 44 newly elected councillors from general wards and female councillors representing reserved seats of the Mymensingh City Corporation also took their oaths during the same event.
The oath-taking ceremony was conducted by Md Tazul Islam, the Minister of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, with Muhammad Ibrahim, the Secretary of the Local Government Division, overseeing the proceedings.
Notably, Tahsin Bahar Suchona's election marks a historic moment as she becomes the first female mayor of the Cumilla City Corporation. Suchona, daughter of Cumilla-6 lawmaker AKM Bahauddin Bahar, secured victory in the by-election held on March 9.
Similarly, Ekramul Haque Titu assumed the position of mayor in the Mymensingh city corporation election also held on the same day.
