President Mohammed Shahabuddin issued a call to action on Tuesday, urging citizens to collaborate in realizing the vision of a non-communal, hunger and poverty-free, developed, and prosperous "Sonar Bangla" as envisioned by the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In a message marking the historic "Mujibnagar Day," President Shahabuddin extended warm greetings and congratulations to citizens, including Bangladeshis residing abroad. He emphasized the significance of April 17 as a memorable day in the Bangali Nation's struggle for independence.
On this auspicious occasion, he paid tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the four national leaders—Syed Nazrul Islam, Tajuddin Ahmed, Captain M Mansur Ali, and AHM Qamruzzaman—under whose leadership Bangladesh achieved independence through the nine-month-long Liberation War.
President Shahabuddin also honored the three million valiant freedom fighters, war heroines, martyred intellectuals, and all those who supported and contributed to the war effort.
He recalled the institutionalization of the struggle for freedom with the formation of the Mujibnagar Government on April 10, 1971, following Bangabandhu's historic March 7 speech. The president highlighted the significance of the Mujibnagar Government's oath-taking ceremony on April 17, 1971, symbolizing the emergence of a constitutional government to lead the Liberation War.
Acknowledging the global support received by Bangladesh due to the formation of the Mujibnagar Government, President Shahabuddin praised its pivotal role in shaping public opinion, managing refugees, and formulating war strategies during the independence struggle.
Furthermore, he encouraged citizens to contribute from their respective positions to realize Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's vision of a "Smart Bangladesh."
President Shahabuddin expressed optimism that observing Mujibnagar Day would enable the new generation to learn about the nation's true history and inspire them to actively participate in nation-building efforts for a prosperous future.
