A ship called the Chin Duin from Myanmar docked in Bangladeshi seas, carrying 173 citizens of Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi ship "Karnaphuli Tug-1" transported them from the Chin Duin ship to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) wharf in Cox's Bazar around 1:00 pm on Wednesday.
The ship Chin Duin left Sittwe Port yesterday, April 23, with the intention of travelling across the border into Bangladesh.
One by one, they were removed from the ship in front of their family after being transported to Nuniachhara Ghat by a Bangladeshi ship. They were brought to makeshift tents for the extradition procedure, which were guarded by the police, Coast Guard, and BGB.
There were BGB and other high-ranking Coast Guard officials as well as the Myanmar ambassador.
In addition, Saimum Sarwar Kamal, a member of Parliament for Cox's Bazar-3, the whip of the National Assembly, and a member of the Standing Committee of the Ministry of External Affairs, had been involved in the proceedings from the beginning of the day.
Related sources state that of the 173 Bangladeshis who made their way back to their own country via ship, 129 are from Cox's Bazar, 30 are from Bandarban, 7 are from Rangamati-Khagrachari, and 1 each from the districts of Noakhali, Narayanganj, Chittagong, Rajbari, Narsingdi, and Nilphamari. Among these, three are women.
In an effort to swiftly and conveniently repatriate Bangladeshi people, it is known that the Bangladeshi Embassy in Myanmar has taken the initiative to transfer 144 verified citizens of Bangladesh who have served their full sentences or been granted pardons from other jails in Myanmar to Sittwe Prison.
In addition, 29 other confirmed nationals of Bangladesh who are either in jail or are awaiting trial are also being freed by Bangladesh. Additionally, they were released from Sittwe Prison today, which allowed the sentence to be revoked.
It is understood that upon verification, the relevant authorities would send 173 individuals back to their families on Wednesday.
285 men of the Myanmar Defence Force who were forced to evacuate to Bangladesh owing to the crisis in Rakhine State will board the ship Chin Duin tomorrow, April 25, and return with them.
Remarkably, 29 Bangladeshi nationals who had served their time in prison in Myanmar were returned home as a result of the flag-raising ceremony between the border guards of the two nations on October 3.
