The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecasted a respite from the scorching heat wave currently engulfing various parts of the country, including Dhaka. According to Dr. Abdul Kalam Mollik, a meteorologist at the BMD, rains or thunder showers are anticipated in Chattogram, Sylhet, Mymensingh divisions, and other areas, including Dhaka division, starting from May 2.

The expected rainfall is likely to lead to a decline in temperature, providing relief from the prevailing heat wave conditions. Currently, Jashore and Rajshahi districts are experiencing a "Very Severe" heat wave, while other areas, including parts of the Khulna division, Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalgonj, Naogaon, Pabna, and Nilphamari districts, are facing a "Severe" heat wave. Additionally, Barishal division and various parts of Dhaka, Rajshahi, and Rangpur divisions, along with Mymensingh, Moulvibazar, Rangamati, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni, and Bandarban districts, are grappling with "Mild to Moderate" heat waves, as per the BMD bulletin.

The forecast also warns of rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds in Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, with isolated areas likely to experience hails. However, the weather is expected to remain mainly dry with a temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere across the country.

Although day temperatures may witness a slight rise, night temperatures are expected to remain nearly unchanged. Despite the anticipated rainfall, the discomfort may persist due to increased moisture incursion, as highlighted by the BMD.

On Sunday (April 29th), the highest temperature recorded in the country was 42.2 degrees Celsius in Jashore district, while Sunmaganj received 18 mm of rainfall until 6 am on Monday. As Bangladesh braces for the expected rainfall, residents are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of the heat wave until relief arrives.
