Election Commissioner (EC) Md Alamgir has affirmed that despite the prevailing heatwave, voters will actively participate in the Upazila Parishad elections.

Responding to queries from reporters during a view exchange meeting organized by the Rajbari district administration on Monday, Alamgir pointed out that elections proceeded without interruption in neighboring India despite scorching temperatures. He noted that previous elections in Bangladesh also took place amid similar weather conditions.

Assuring measures to mitigate the impact of the heatwave, Alamgir mentioned the presence of ample trees at each polling center and arrangements for sufficient clean drinking water on the voting day. He expressed confidence in the turnout of voters, citing past election experiences.

In addition to security arrangements, Alamgir disclosed plans to deploy an adequate number of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel, police, and Ansar during the Upazila Parishad elections.

The elections will be conducted in four phases, with 152 upazilas scheduled for the first phase on May 8. Among them, 22 upazilas will use electronic voting machines (EVMs), while the remaining 130 will utilize ballot papers. Subsequent phases are slated for May 23, May 29, and June 5.
