Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina praised the country's army for earning public trust and confidence through its unwavering support for the people.
During an address at the Army Central Auditorium in Dhaka Cantonment, where she inaugurated the newly constructed Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) Bhaban and Sena Prangan (Army Central Auditorium) Bhaban, the prime minister underscored the transformation in public perception of the army.
She noted that following the tragic events of August 1975, which saw the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his family by a faction of disgruntled army personnel, public confidence in the army had faltered. Since assuming office in 1996, Hasina has prioritized rebuilding this trust.
"I have worked tirelessly to restore the faith and trust of the people in our army, a vital component in safeguarding our nation's independence and sovereignty," she affirmed.
She highlighted the army's commitment to standing by the people in times of need, emphasizing its pivotal role in maintaining stability and security. Hasina pointed out that her government has consistently aligned its policies with the vision outlined in the Defence Policy 1974, established by the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"We are dedicated to modernizing and equipping our armed forces with the latest technological advancements," she affirmed, referring to the ongoing implementation of the Forces Goal-2030.
Hasina also lauded the Bangladesh armed forces' renowned contributions to United Nations Peacekeeping missions, emphasizing the government's commitment to further enhancing their global reputation.
In a symbolic gesture, the prime minister planted a sapling (Chatiyan) on the premises of the Army Central Auditorium, highlighting the government's commitment to growth and sustainability.
