Bangladesh and France are set to enhance their strategic and economic cooperation, focusing on key areas including the acquisition of 10 Airbus A350 aircraft and the establishment of Bangladesh’s own sovereign earth-observation satellite. This progress is expected during Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s upcoming visit to France, though the exact date is still being finalized, according to French Ambassador to Bangladesh, Marie Masdupuy.

Ambassador Masdupuy mentioned that discussions are ongoing between Airbus and Biman Bangladesh Airlines for aircraft purchase, as well as with Bangladesh for the satellite systems aimed at earth observation. The ambassador expressed confidence that these deals would soon be finalized, highlighting the positive trajectory of bilateral relations, especially following President Emmanuel Macron's visit to Bangladesh in September 2023.

The bilateral relations, built over more than fifty years of diplomatic engagement, are poised to reach new heights through these strategic initiatives. Both countries emphasize the importance of improved air traffic management and enhanced cooperation in strategic sectors such as aerospace, defense, and digital cybersecurity.

In terms of economic opportunities, the French envoy acknowledged the challenges Bangladesh faces as it transitions from its UN Least Developed Country (LDC) status. She stressed the importance of economic diversification and labor market improvements to ensure continued access to special trade regimes, particularly with the European Union.

Ambassador Masdupuy also highlighted growing interest from both Bangladeshi and French companies in sectors like energy, food, shipbuilding, and engineering. She mentioned potential investments by Bangladeshi companies in France, particularly in the pharmaceutical and retail sectors.

Addressing the Rohingya crisis, the ambassador expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in the camps in Cox’s Bazar and emphasized the need for repatriation, contingent on improved conditions in Myanmar. She reassured continued French support for Bangladesh's efforts to maintain security and humanitarian aid for the Rohingya refugees.

The ambassador dismissed disinformation regarding visa issues, emphasizing transparency and the absence of visa refusals due to unreceived applications.

France views Bangladesh as a crucial partner in implementing its Indo-Pacific strategy, aimed at promoting regional peace, stability, and prosperity through cooperation in maritime security and the blue economy. The shared vision for a free, open, peaceful, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region underscores the importance of maintaining dialogue and cooperation with all regional actors, including China and India.

In conclusion, the ambassador highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships and cooperation across various sectors, reaffirming the commitment of both nations to work together towards mutual goals and shared prosperity.
